I have a quick and easy energy save for you and you won’t need an energy audit or solar panels or special lightbulbs. All you need is to add one easy step into your daily routine. Open your curtains or blinds during the day.
The sun provides free light that is there for the taking if you simply open up your blinds or curtains. Many of us won’t need to turn on lights at all during the day, providing a good trade off for using more energy-impactful incandescent lights.
Some homes may not be designed ideally for good daylighting, but even a little light will help. You won’t know for sure until you try it!
There are other benefits to exposing yourself to more natural daylighting too. Daylight is an “essential regulator of circadian rhythms,”* your internal clock that tells you when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to be alert. With the number of people suffering from insomnia and sleep disorders, it seems we could all use some extra exposure to daylight.
